Canal 13 is a privately owned Chilean broadcast television channel. It began broadcasting on August 21, 1959 on frequency 2 in Santiago, in a transmission led by a group of engineers from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Subsequently, the frequency was changed to channel 13, which gave rise to its current name. In its beginnings, one of its most important milestones, which gave the real kick-off to this new media, was the transmission of the 1962 World Soccer Championship, held in Chile. Since then, Canal 13 and its areas of operation have grown over the years. Since 1995, it has a second subscription signal, called 13C (formerly Señal 3), with cultural programming.
