RTV Drenthe is the public regional radio and television broadcaster of the Dutch province of Drenthe. It was created after the split of Radio Noord (until then the regional broadcaster of Groningen and Drenthe) in 1989. The broadcaster is based in Assen, since 2004 in the former Rijks Hogere Burgerschool on Beilerstraat.
TV Drenthe provides an average of one hour of broadcast time per day, usually a combination of the daily regional news and a weekly theme program. The broadcasts start at 17.00 hours. The rest of the evening and night the broadcasts are repeated. RTV Drenthe is the regional calamity broadcaster of Drenthe.
The broadcaster has built up a good reputation with the population. In the mid-1990s it was the best listened to regional radio station in the Netherlands. One of the best watched programs of the station was the summer program De Trektocht. Reporters and guests travelled across the province for a few weeks, from village to village, which could be followed live on the radio and of which every evening a report appeared on TV. The team, which presented partly in Drenthe, was almost always welcomed with open arms by the local population. Through an open vote, the public could decide where the walk went the next day.
