- Public
TPA is a generalist channel, dedicated to information, fiction and entertainment, and an integral part of Televisão Pública de Angola.
With daily broadcasts of news, talk shows and cultural series, TPA1 also broadcasts, through its own productions, entertainment and coverage of sports events
Televisão Pública de Angola (TPA) is an Angolan state television network and the country's main broadcaster.
Its official headquarters is in Luanda, which through TPA1, is tuned on VHF Channel 2. The President of the Board of Directors is currently Francisco Mendes.
In 1962, Rádio Clube da Nova Lisboa (now Huambo) started broadcasting with the first images and television transmission in Angola. Two years later, it started in Benguela and after 1970 in Luanda. However, the transmissions were suspended because they were illegal, since Rádio e Televisão de Portugal (RTP) had an exclusive monopoly on TVs in the then Portuguese colony.
In 1973, the Portuguese colonial government founded Radiotelevisão Portuguesa de Angola (RPA), a section of RTP.
After the independence of Angola on 11 November 1975 and the departure of around 500,000 Portuguese, the government of the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola nationalised the station and renamed it Televisão Popular de Angola.
